OBJECT TO THE A358 TAUNTON TO SOUTHFIELDS SCHEME
Deadline: Monday 22 November 2021
The statutory consultation has started on this scheme in Somerset which destroys countryside, severs local communities and drives up traffic and carbon emissions. Deadline for responding is 11.59pm on Monday 22 November 2021.
Please email your objection to A358TauntontoSouthfields@highwaysengland.co.uk
Things you may wish to mention in your consultation response are:
- The scheme would drive up traffic and carbon emissions which is unacceptable in a climate emergency and when our NDC commitment under the Paris Agreement means we need to make a 68% cut to carbon emissions by 2030. The climate chapter of the environmental report states that the extra traffic from the scheme would increase carbon emissions by 1,963,000 extra tonnes over the 60 year appraisal period. The construction of the scheme would increase carbon by another 80,000 extra tonnes (not including the carbon lost by the cutting of trees, site clearance, soil disturbance and land-use change).
- The scheme would lead to severance of local communities and public rights of way.
- Non-roadbuilding alternatives have not been examined.
- The consultation is too rushed at just 6 weeks for a large and complex scheme.
