Good information is key to any good campaign, so knowing how to find it is an essential tool for any campaigner. Some information can be found from Government statistics that are regularly published such as on traffic. Other data can be harder to uncover, or may not be published, or if it is, not in an obvious location.
That's where Freedom of Information (FoI) is so important as it gives you the right, within certain limits, to ask for data that could help your campaign. We recommend using a website such as WhatDoTheyKnow.com as it is comes with advice, forms, and automatically sends your request to the right person in the organisation you select. It also explains what appeals you can make and where these should be sent.
It is run by the charity MySociety which has produced three online masterclasses to help you use FoI to best effect alongside written summaries of the masterclasses.
